EBA published the Statistical Report 2024

EBA, the European Biogas Association, of which the CIB is a member, published the new edition of the Statistical Report, the document that annually photographs the situation of the biogas and biomethane sector in Europe.

According to the data presented by EBA, the combined production of biogas and biomethane in Europe has reached 22 billion cubic metres, a volume greater than the domestic natural gas demand of Belgium, Denmark and Ireland combined, and equal to 7% of the European Union’s natural gas consumption.

Furthermore, biomethane production alone grew to 4.9 bcm in 2023, with an installed capacity of 6.4 bcm/year by the first quarter of 2024. This result represents the largest increase in biomethane production to date, with the largest annual increase concentrated in the EU region (21%).
