Biogas Italy 2025: the two-day CIB event in Milan. Technology as an engine for development in agriculture at the centre
A new edition of Biogas Italy, the annual event of the CIB-Consorzio Italiano Biogas, will be held in Milan, on 13 and 14 March, at The Mall.
At the centre of the two-day event is technology as an engine of innovation and impetus for development in agriculture. Starting with anaerobic digestion, the production of biogas and biomethane has changed the paradigm of agriculture, integrating agricultural production with energy production, driving the primary sector towards new opportunities. Central to the development of the sector remains the issue of post-NRP development trajectories.
Leading the discussion again this year will be journalist Filippo Solibello, voice and face of Radio Rai, who will accompany the in-depth discussion of the “Technological factor. Innovation in the field for the future’.
“2025 is a strategic year for our companies, which will have to compete to complete as many initiatives as possible within the tight timeframe envisaged by the PNRR. In addition to this great challenge that makes 2025 the year of ‘doing’, it becomes at the same time fundamental to start long-term planning that looks beyond these projects to ensure that our companies can plan consistently with the ambitious targets the government has set for renewable gas production,” said Piero Gattoni, President of the CIB. “We have decided to return to Milan because this area represents the roots of our sector: in fact, it was in Lombardy that a model of integration with agriculture was developed that has set the standard. This region is a symbol of the growth of biogas and biomethane, thanks to the farsightedness of regional institutions and the vision of local farms, which have been able to invest in innovation and sustainability. This year’s Biogas Italy will be an opportunity for us all to get together and discuss the future.”
What’s new at Biogas Italy 2025
One of the key moments will be the presentation of the CIB’s proposals for the post-PNRR agricultural biogas and biomethane sector, a programmatic manifesto to 2030 that brings together the priorities for the consolidation of agricultural biogas and biomethane in the coming years.
In addition, one of this year’s new topics will be the social acceptability of biogas and biomethane infrastructures, with the preview presentation of a research study carried out in collaboration with the YouTrend agency. A document that will offer an insight into the perception of the sector, which will help outline the level of knowledge and trust towards the supply chain and identify levers to strengthen dialogue with local communities. This insight will be part of the broader debate on the positive externalities of the sector, from environmental benefits to the creation of economic and social value for rural areas.
Finally, this year’s edition will offer an in-depth look at the main trajectories of the agricultural biogas and biomethane market. In particular, crucial topics such as the integration of innovations in agriculture through anaerobic digestion and the role of the sector as a driver towards a new European Green Deal will be addressed.
