EBA presents the new European biomethane map 2024

EBA-European Biogas Association today presented the updated version of the European biomethane map.
According to EBA data, Europe has reached an installed capacity of 6.4 billion cubic metres of biomethane per year. In this scenario, 81% of this capacity is located in the EU, which sees a growth of 37% since the last survey (while that of non-EU countries stands at 20%).
The map includes 1,548 biomethane plants (32% more than in the previous edition). France and Italy show significant increases in capacity, while the United Kingdom and Denmark maintain their position as market leaders with Germany confirming its leadership position in Europe.
Finally, according to a recent analysis reported by EBA, €25 billion of private investment is expected by 2030, which will lead to the construction of 950 new biomethane plants.
