EBA’s Statistical Report 2023 published

Today EBA, the European Biogas Association, published the new edition of the Statistical Report 2023, the document that tracks the status of biogas and biomethane production and use across Europe and in individual Member States.

According to data released by EBA, renewable gas (biogas and biomethane) in Europe will amount to 21 billion cubic metres in 2022, accounting for 6 per cent of EU natural gas consumption.

Biomethane production alone grew from 3.5 billion cubic metres to 4.2 billion cubic metres in 2022 (20 per cent more than in previous surveys).

In addition, the 2023 edition of the Report includes a section dedicated to the use of digestate, which covered 15% of the European demand for nitrogen-based fertilisers in 2022.
