GOODBYO | MULTI-COMMODITIES MICROBIAL-DRIVEN BIOREFINERY BASED ON FOOD-PROCESSING INDUSTRY WASTES, BIOGENIC CO2 AND BIOPROCESS WASTEWATERS

On 17 and 18 October, the kick-off meeting of the European project GoodByO (Multi-commodities microbial-driven BiOrefinery based on food-processing industry wastes, biogenic CO2 and bioprocess wastewaters) took place in Turin. Within the project, the CIB participates as communication and dissemination manager, as well as providing support in other working groups as an expert in the field.

The project is funded by the Circular Bio-Based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) and the partnership consists of 10 international partners. GoodByO aims to provide new bio-based products from the ChainCraft BV plant by exploiting its gaseous and liquid secondary streams in order to implement innovative microorganism-based supply chains.

The GoodByO project addresses this challenge by developing a next-generation multi-commodity biorefinery based on food waste, biogenic CO2 and bioprocess wastewater to maximise resource efficiency and circularity. By applying the cascading use principle and exploiting the metabolic diversity of microbial catalysts, together with robust process integration and renewable energy utilisation, GoodByO aims to improve the environmental footprint and cost-effectiveness of both established and innovative biobased value chains.
